After the Rain

After the rain, a sigh of relief

The storm has abated, the world is at peace

Garden blooms standing up straight to attention

Their thirst has been quenched by divine intervention

Petrichor freshness assaults all my senses

Sweet-pea scent leaves my nose quite defenceless

Aroma of newly cut grass fills the air

Its origin humble, its scent debonair

The hedgerow revived from its temporary slumber

Its branches and leaves are no longer encumbered

The birds fill the air with their joyful new song

All is well with the world, for the rain is now gone
