To see the Sea
Updated: Jul 16
Down the hill
Along the lane
The road is steep
Quadriceps strain
Traverse levada
Water trickles
Path is narrow
Grasses tickle
Descending steps
Five hundred plus
Our footsteps light
No repercuss
Mountain trail
A darkened tunnel
Rocks prevail
Untethered rubble
Summer blooms
The sea in sight
The crashing booms of
Neptune's might
And then we lunch beside the waves
Forget about the rocks and caves
Until when sun begins to dip
It's time to take the uphill trip
Neptune's might
His crashing booms
Sea's out of sight
Still summer blooms
Untethered rubble
Rocks prevail
A darkened tunnel
Mountain trail
Repercussions
Footsteps harrowed
Grasses tickle
Path is narrow
Five hundred plus
Up concrete flight
Traverse levada
Water bright
Hamstrings strain
The road seems steeper
Along the lane
And up, up, up the hill
Until with tired and wobbly legs
We make it home and draw new breath
For long and steep it may well be
But worth it all to see the sea
