Nothing

Zero

Absence

None

The thought of something had

- now gone

An empty nest

A broken marriage

A penniless purse

Ideals disparaged

Declining health

An empty cupboard

Opportunity passed

Ambition shattered

No sun in the sky

Nor birds in the tree

Nothing more to say

No future to see

Zero ideas

Nothing to do

Absence of confidence

- when failure feels true

Nothing, feels hollow

A space now unfilled

A door standing open

A life to rebuild

For absence sheds darkness

And space can be freeing

The beauty of silence

Can enhance well-being

Permission to sit

In the light of the morning

Watch butterflies’ dance

As a new day is dawning

At one with the wildlife

The trees and the birds

Imagining kingdoms

Not built out of words

The absence of traffic

Of loud, mindless chatter

Can teach you that silence

Is something that matters

With no diary to check

Or agenda to follow

There’s space for calm thought

- a dream for tomorrow.

For when duty recedes

Inspiration takes flight

Ideas, curiosity

Possibilities so bright

Nothing to prove

And nothing to lose

Just a world full of options

And the freedom to choose

For sometimes life's absence

Is the space that we need

because space becomes time

and time can plant seeds

Zero

Nothing

Absence

None

A challenge surrendered...

...or a contest to be won

Words used in the negative

Deliver despair

But to alter their meaning

Lays new options bare

For nothing is empty

If acknowledged as so

With a new connotation

Possibilities grow.

Nothing? Not always a bad thing.
Nothing? Not always a bad thing.
